This day, 23 February, in 1979, Ambassador Ding Xuesong submitted her credentials to Queen Juliana Louise Emma Marie Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, thus becoming the first female ambassador appointed by the Chinese government since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Ding would later oversee the first to China by a sitting Dutch Prime Minister and become Ambassador to Denmark and Ireland.
