On this Day in Chinese History; 21 February

This day, 21 February, in 1972, US President Richard Nixon began a historic visit to China. The New York Times that day wrote of his reception, “The President received a studiously correct but minimal official welcome as he began his 8-day visit to China, the tribute due a chief of state but without any acclaim for government that still does not officially recognise the People’s Republic of China”.
