On this Day in Chinese History; 20 December

This day, 20 December, in 1999, Macau returned to Chinese sovereignty. President Jiang Zemin said China and Portugal had achieved a smooth handover, after which China would unswervingly implement the policies of  “One Country, Two Systems”, and “Macau People Governing Macau”, with the territory enjoying a high degree of autonomy and economic interests protected by law.
