This day, 19 June, 1931, Pearl Buck’s novel “The Good Earth” was published. Translated in to more than 100 languages and distributed worldwide, the novel  won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1932, while Buck herself won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1938. Actively calling on American society to help the Chinese during World War 2, Premier Zhou Enlai would describe her as a friend to the Chinese people.
