This day, 17 July, in 1945, Chiang Kai-shek for China, Winston Churchill for the UK and Harry S. Truman for the USA, issued the Potsdam Declaration, in part calling on the Japanese government to immediately declare the unconditional surrender of all Japanese armed forces in areas they had occupied in Northeast China, Taiwan, the Penghu Islands and other places.
