This day, 16 December, in 1949, Mao Zedong, Chairman of the Central Committee of the CCP and Chairman of PRC, visited the Soviet Union in what  was the first overseas visit by a leader of the New China. During the visit, the two countries also negotiated and signed the “Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship, Alliance and Mutual Assistance”.
