This day, 14 July, 1976, the 1,860-kilometre long Tanzania-Zambia Railway, built with Chinese assistance, was officially opened to traffic. Construction began in October 1970 and track laying was completed in June 1975. With terrain along the route complex and construction arduous, its completion well demonstrated the unbreakable friendship between the Chinese and African peoples.
