This day, 12 January, in 1959, Chairman Mao Zedong pointed out when meeting Brazilian guests that Asia, Africa and Latin America are the main forces in the world. The global population was then 2.7 billion, with 2.3 billion people living in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Mao rhetorically asked who is the majority and who is the minority; the Western world is the minority.
