This day, 8 February, in 2003, Xinhua News Agency reported that China had sent female soldiers to participate in United Nations peacekeeping operations for the first time. They were military doctors and nurses from a hospital in the Shenyang Military Region who joined China’s medical team going to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to perform United Nations’ peacekeeping missions.
