Despite its unusual location, the uppermost floor of Xin Hua Bookstore in Xiejiekou, Wo Cha (我茶) has proven itself a superb lunchtime dining option for city-goers craving tasty Taiwanese and a tranquil environment. The menu, which is in fact engraved into wooden mats in a very traditional fashion, speaks of an array of Taiwanese delicacies ranging from chicken curry to noodles in aromatic broths and classics such as zha jiang mian (炸酱面); which is although fiddly on one’s chopsticks, warmly welcomed by one’s tastebuds. Afterwards, you can wash your meal down with a soothing cup of herbal tea, brewed intricately before your very eyes by one of the restaurant’s tea aficionados. Otherwise, sit back with a good book (literally purchasable nearby) and enjoy the peace and quiet that is rarely accessible when in the heart of Nanjing.
