Let Jatujak take you on a culinary trip down the Mekong river. This Thai restaurant offers a vast array of dishes, including the classic Thai curry in green or red variations and a choice of beef or chicken. The menu is arranged according to provinces as well as the restaurant’s own creations. Their cold dishes are a delight, ranging from well-known Papaya Salad to a lesser known concoction including aubergine, boiled eggs, spam, shrimp and a colourful array of ingredients. The degree of spiciness gives the food bite, while not being intolerably painful. If you do need to cool off, order the Mango Ximilu 西米露, the combination of fresh fruit, coconut milk, vanilla ice cream and tiny tapioca pearls will quickly soothe your taste buds. The decor imitates what we have come to think of as Thai style, while not being as over-the-top and pompous as many others. Jatujak makes for a relaxing and delicious evening at average shopping centre prices (calculate around ¥40 per dish).
