Ebb and flow. Remember the disappearing street “mall” from some weeks ago. The space that the vendors vacated was cleaned up and levelled. Nothing happened for quite a while. Then it was surrounded with a steel frame. More inactivity. Finally, the frame was covered with the blue steel panels that are erected around construction sites. Obviously some building work was about to proceed. But no. On Tuesday evening, all the vendors reappeared, and the Xianlin “pop up” mall was back in all its glory.

Trucks remain a hazard around town. At one location, trucks lined up two abreast, and ten deep, to completely close off a road as they waited to get in for loading. In the CBD, a fully loaded truck managed to crunch the centre safety barrier to provide yet another bottleneck.

If you don’t do cold, leave town now. The first chill is in the breeze, and the expectation is for a colder winter this year (Editor sheds bitter tears in trepidation).
