A Nanjing mystery? Around 1.30 on Tuesday morning, a huge crowd passed Xianlin Lake. In the darkness, they appeared to be dressed in similar clothes, and in their midst was a large never-before-seen flag. Chanting came and went as they walked, not marched, along the street maybe 5 abreast and possibly a kilometre long. Who were they, and where were they going? Maybe we will never know.

Another mystery? Are the occasional booms that we hear accidental explosions, weapons, or massive excavations?

Life in Nanjing used to be one of deprivation, but more and more foreign products are readily available. Wild Turkey American Honey anyone?

Usually The Nanjinger concentrates on Nanjing. But this issue looks at our Chinese friends abroad. Lots to read.

Oh dear! A week’s holiday is upon us and the rain has set in. If you’re stuck in town, browse www.nanjingexpat.com to find things to do, and places to go.
