An American, Bill, who is in his 50s, is running a poultry farm in Jinxi Village in Jiangdu, Jiangsu Province.

“My parents are fur traders,” Bill introduced. Initially, he was also in the leather business. He first came to China in 1999 and he settled in Shanghai. He then owned a factory and started his business.

In 2004, Bill grew a keen interest in Jinxi during a short country visit. In 2005, Bill came to Jiangdu and invested a 400-mu farm in Jinxi. Last year, he set up a company and began the fulltime poultry business.

“Bill does things very seriously and the farm has aseptic management,” said a staff of the farm. The farm is cleaned and disinfected daily. The doors of the farm are closed in order to isolate the bacteria from the outside as much as possible. Bill also plans to introduce some turkey for the diversity of the farm.

“In China, many young people do not want to become farmers as they think farmers have no future,” Bill said. In his view, young people do not have to live in cities and farmers do have their own fun.

Bill will plant fruit trees, breed horses, deer and other animals on the farm. He hopes that more people can visit the farm and enjoy the wonderful countryside time.
