A fantastic total solar eclipse was staged in the sky on the morning of Mar 9. But because Jiangsu is not in the total solar eclipse zone, people in the province only saw the partial eclipse.

The weather in Nanjing unexpectedly cleared up after a night of wind and rain. Nanjing Purple Mountain Observatory and Nanjing Amateur Astronomers Association conducted joint observation of the partial eclipse. The burning sun became a round orange sphere in the telescope lens. As the eclipse process went on, this “orange” began to disappear, as if someone took a bite of it. After the total eclipse, it began to slowly reappear and finally the sun was big and round as usual.

Solar eclipse consists of total solar eclipse, annular eclipse and partial eclipse. Total eclipse of the sun is when the sun is completely obscured and it usually lasts about four minutes. In total solar eclipse, the bright sky suddenly turns black and the brightest stars and planets will shine in the sky, as if we are in the reversal of space and time.
