Yu Yunnong, a 75-year-old retired high school teacher in Nanjing, has compiled an atlas on edible wild herbs in the Purple Mountain. He also shares his research results with students.
In 2013, Yu organized a team to explore the natural environment in Purple Mountain. The team comprises of primary school students and their parents. They would go to the Purple Mountain on holidays to find edible wild herbs.
In the mountain, Yu and the kid have found a variety of mushrooms, edible fungus and lucidumganoderma. The kids have learned a lot about roadside edible herbs. Sometimes, they would take back some edible wild herbs to cook.
It took Yu two years to take pictures and make specimens. They have found more than 140 kinds of edible wild herbs in the Purple Mountain. In his book, each edible wild herb is equipped with one or two pictures.There are also detailed notes about the herd below the pictures.
