The city of Wuxi, Jiangsu province hosted a conference entitled Establishment of Wuxi Esperanto Association & First Council Election in Wuxi New District, on Nov 8.
The Wuxi Esperanto Association is a non-profit organization founded by local Esperanto enthusiasts, aiming at promoting the use of the language and facilitating cultural exchange between Esperanto users worldwide.
Esperanto users from more than 30 countries and regions sent their congratulatory letters and videos.
The founding of the Wuxi Esperanto Association is expected to enhance Wuxi’s international reputation, develop friendly relationships with schools, corporations and cities around the world, and serve Wuxi’s opening up and economic development, said a local government official.
Esperanto is a constructed international auxiliary language. It is the most widely spoken constructed language in the world. Its inventor, physician and linguist L. L. Zamenhof, hoped to create an easy-to-learn, politically neutral language that would transcend nationality and foster peace and international understanding between people with different languages.
