A recent report released by Nanjing police says a speeding car which killed two people in Nanjing, capital of East China’s Jiangsu province 10 days ago, was accelerating at over 195 kilometers per hour when the fatal accident occurred.
Wang Jijin, the driver of the car has been arrested by local police and could receive a maximum seven-year jail sentence according to China’s criminal law. The 35-year-old suspect ran a red light and crashed into another car at a cross road in downtown Nanjing on June 20.
Two people died and one was injured in the accident while a few other cars were also damaged.
The driver abandoned the car and escaped from the scene of the accident after the crash.
According to an investigation released a week earlier, the case has been defined as a hit-and-run accident while driving under the influence of alcohol or other narcotics have been ruled out.
Relatives of the female victim has filed a lawsuit against the driver and refused to settle the case out of court.
Footage of the accident has been released and caused a huge public outcry.
