The official Weibo of Nanjing Municipal Publicity Department, released news on May 3: Pukou Railway Station officially starts renovation in the station and its surroundings.

In the opinion of Fang Yao, a planner, Pukou Railway Station is a “living fossil”. Built in 1911 and put into operation in 1914, this place has become a traffic hub that connects 11 provinces, such as Hebei, Shandong, Anhui and Jiangsu, bringing along huge popularity for Nanjing. Many great persons have left their footprints at Pukou Railway Station. It has also been mentioned by quite some literary works, and has become a filming location for films and TV plays in recent years. It is the only railway station in China that has kept the features of the Republic of China (1912-1949), as well as the first “hundred-year-old railway station” in China that keeps complete historical features.

@_ Nanjing revealed the fact that there used to be 32 railway stations in Nanjing. Nanjing West Station, which is across the river and located at Laoxiaguan, was built in 1905 (the 31st year of Emperor Guangxu’s reign of the Qing Dynasty), earlier than Pukou Railway Station. After the planned construction is completed, the two hundred-year-old railway stations, which are located to the south and north of the Yangtze River respectively, will echo each other and constitute a complete development history of Nanjing’s railways, said persons in charge.
