This day, 28 July in 1984, China returned to the international community after 32 years away from the Olympics to participate in the 23rd Olympic Games held in Los Angeles, USA. Sending the largest sports delegation in history, with a total of 225 athletes and 50 coaches participating in 16 events, China took home its very first Olympic gold medal that was also the very first of the 1984 Games, won by Xu Haifeng in the 50 m Pistol event.
