The greening on Nanjing’s Purple Mountain was renovated on Apr. 19, thanks to more than 500 volunteers from Nanjing University of Science and Technology and Nanjing Vocational Institute of Science and Technology.

The renovated parts were mainly climbing paths trampled by visitors, where over 200 ornamental trees called “Red Robin” were planted.

There are 14 official climbing paths on Purple Mountain, but still some climbers would trample on the vegetations on the mountain to make their own paths, introduced Niu Jinxiao, who is in charge of forestry administration of Purple Mountain.

The self-repair of the mountainous vegetation takes a long time and the exposure of rocks might cause serious environmental problems. The forestry and other related departments are making great efforts to revitalize the infertile soil under the trampled paths.
