The Protection Regulations for Nanjing City Walls was formally implemented on 1st April and will provide more comprehensive and stricter protection for city walls. This newly-implemented Regulation not only lists the imperial palace, imperial city, outer city and the moat into its detailed protection area, but also confines the height of surrounding buildings. Besides, it regulates that whoever damages city walls will face a fine of at most ¥100,000. According to the Regulation, Nanjing city walls will be strictly protected and rationally used with the standard of world cultural heritage. As one of the world heritages, Nanjing city walls should be protected by everyone in society. The Regulations has opened a door to social forces by encouraging domestic and overseas organizations to set up funds for the city walls’ protection.
