During the busiest time of the year for one of Nanjing’s most iconic tourist destinations, the local police station got creative to assist visitors in their quest to tame the masses. About 100,000 tourists visited Nanjing Confucius Temple scenic area on the first day of the Spring Festival holiday. The visitor flow amounted to 350,000 on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year with a year-on-year increase, according to the scenic spot.

The Confucius Temple Police Station, Qinhuai District Public Security Bureau received many help-seek calls from visitors every day, especially reports about lost children.

To facilitate visitors for lantern-watching and scenery-enjoying, the Qinhuai police draw a “cartoon version” map of the Confucius Temple scenic area for the visitors. During the Spring Festival, many visitors to the Confucius Temple scenic area received cartoon maps from the Confucius Temple Police Station.

“What a lovely cartoon map! Everything is clear at a glance! Even the policeman image is very cute!” said a visitor seeing the map.

Unlike traditional maps, the cartoon map only marks the location of the core scenic spots of the Confucius Temple, with bricks marking roads and bridges marking stone bridges, which is clear at a glance. In addition to the clear indication of scenic spots and roads of the Confucius Temple, the police also, according to the visitor flow during the Confucius Temple Lantern Festival in previous years, set direction arrows on the roads to lead the visitors out and in, which is also a reasonable and effective method to channel the visitor flow in the scenic area.
