The parent community of Dulwich College Suzhou, called Friends of Dulwich (FOD), along with Headmaster John Todd visited the Suzhou Children’s Hospital to present 100,000RMB to help pay for a little girl’s medical treatment.

The money was raised at their recent International Day and Founder’s Day Celebration, one of the biggest events in the College calendar. The event is all about celebrating the diversity of their community and the spirit of Dulwich College life. Founder’s Day is a special occasion marking a direct link to Dulwich College London which was established almost 400 years ago.

A very important aspect of the day is to raise funds for charity. This year one of the causes Friends of Dulwich chose to support was helping to contribute towards the medical expenses for Jia-Jia, a two-year-old girl from Xiangshui County who was diagnosed with Leukemia last September.

After unsuccessful chemotherapy she has now had a stem cell transplant. Her family have sold everything they had to raise ¥200,000 for her first treatment. Now they need to raise another ¥125,000 to cover the costs of her continued hospital treatment. Suzhou TV Channel 1 came to the hospital to film the presentation with the hope that other people will see this story and be inspired to help this little girl and donate more money to help with the costs of her treatment.

Friends of Dulwich will keep in touch with Jia-Jia and her family to check on her progress. Headmaster, John Todd said “It is wonderful to see the efforts of our school community being put to such a worthwhile cause and we hope Jia-Jia will make a full recovery.”
