This day, 7 March, 1999, Iran’s first electrified railway, the Tehran-Karaj Railway, built by a Chinese company, was officially put into operation. With a total length of 41 kilometres, of which 31.5 kilometres were opened initially, the Chinese side was responsible for the mechanical and electrical system design, equipment supply, installation and commissioning of the link.
