The construction of the Yangzhou’s first green-energy regional headquarter building began, which is also the first low-carbon and environmental friendly three-star green energy regional headquarter building in the northern Jiangsu areas, according to the sources of the Yangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone on Mar 17.

The building with a floor area of 3,045 square meters is the regional headquarter building of the Yuen Foong Yu Paper (Yangzhou) Investment Co., Ltd. (YFYP) and is scheduled to be put to use in April of 2015. Although it is only a two-story building, its construction cost is not low.

“The total investment for this building is about 25 million yuan (US$ 4 million); the commonly used materials are the innovated ones, and the concepts of new materials, new energies as well as energy-saving and emission-reduction are all adopted,” said Zhang Xuejian, general manager of the YFYP.

Some compressed straw materials and some recycled building materials are also used as the interior materials for the building. For example, the furniture and chairs are all made from straw paper, which are not only for the on-site showcasing, but also used by the company staff.

“The quality of the chairs made from the straw paper is the same as that made of wood,” said Zhang Xuejian during an on-site demonstration.

In addition, there are innovations in the water resources utilization as well as energy saving and emission reduction aspects for the complete green energy building.

“Some part of the building roof area will be used for greening, the other part will be used to install rainwater recovery systems and roof solar energy power generation units,” Zhang Xuejian added. It is learned that China’s green energy buildings are classified into three star-rated classes, namely one star, two stars and three stars, with the three stars being the highest class.
