This day, 22 February, in 1974, the concept of the “Three Worlds” was first proposed by Chairman Mao Zedong. Meeting with visiting Zambian President Kaunda, he said, “I think the United States and the Soviet Union are the First World. The centrists; Japan, Europe, and Canada are the Second World. With its large population, Asia, except Japan, together with Africa and Latin America, are the Third World”.
