On this Day in Chinese History; 29 January

This day, 29 January, in 1979, Vice Premier Deng Xiaoping paid an official visit to the United States at the invitation of President Carter, the first visit by a Chinese leader to the USA after the founding of New China. Warmly welcomed by the US government and people, President Carter said that the normalisation of Sino-US relations could help both sides move toward a diverse and peaceful world.
