The new “mobile library” service launched by Nanjing Library attracted attention of deputies to Jiangsu Provincial People’s Congress and Jiangsu Provincial Committee of CPPCC, and is expected to be promoted to outside Nanjing.

When Tang Jiangpeng, principal of Wuxi Xishan High School and delegate to the Provincial People’s Congress, checked in at Nanjing Zhongshan Hotel on Jan 18, the help desk of the “two sessions” (referring to Jiangsu Provincial People’s Congress and Jiangsu Provincial Committee of CPPCC) set by Nanjing Library caught his eyes. He learnt from the hotel staff that Nanjing Library has launched the “mobile library”.

In the evening, Tang Jiangpeng download the mobile library application through a QR code. He was surprised to find that more than two million newspapers, books, and science books are available for borrowing through the small application, which actually includes the resources of the entire Nanjing Library in a small application.

The next day, Tang Jiangpeng talked to the library for cooperation. He intended to issue reader cards for Xishan High School students and install electronic readers in each classroom, moving Nanjing Library into classroom.

“Promoting reading nationwide” has been a national strategy in Finland, Israel and other countries, said Tang Pengjiang during group discussion of the two sessions on Jan. 20, Finnish read an average of 67 books per person each year, while Chinese only 4.39, including teaching supplementary books for primary and secondary schools.

Governor Li Xueyong made a special proposal about “national reading” in the government work report this year. Through “mobile library” and other information-based means, reading cost will be greatly reduced, and universal reading is expected to be realized.
