This day, 27 January, 1964, China and France established diplomatic relations, a symbolic move in the differentiation of international political forces after Word War II as to the decline in control by the USA and the USSR over their respective camps. The move, which had a positive effect on easing the tense international situation of the time, was described in the Western public view as “a sudden diplomatic nuclear explosion”.
