This day, 13 January, in 1993, the UN Secretary-General had the Chemical Weapons Convention opened for signature. Therein, an unprecedented show of support saw 130 countries sign the Convention during a 3-day conference in Paris. Then Foreign Minister Qian Qichen signed the Convention on behalf of the Chinese government.
