The “Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School (Suzhou) and Joint Research Institute” was officially founded in Suzhou on Oct 24. This graduate school is the first Sino-foreign cooperative education institution for postgraduate cultivation in China officially approved by the Ministry of Education.

Monash University is one of the eight major research-type prestige universities in Australia. This cooperative education project is also the result of the cooperation between the State of Victoria of Australia and Jiangsu province.

The joint graduate school began to recruit students on a trial basis in 2012, and started its work in co-cultivating master students in 5 majors, i.e. industrial design engineering, computer technology, traffic engineering, international business and foreign linguistics and applied linguistics. Teachers from the two universities give lessons in English. Specifically, the teachers from Monash University have undertaken 50 percent of the teaching tasks. After the students meet the postgraduate education standards of China and Australia, they may get the master’s degree or doctor’s degree awarded by Southeast University and Monash University.

Meanwhile, Southeast University and Monash University have reached consensus on 5 research fields, i.e. water-sensitive cities, new materials, energy resources, bioinformation, biological and nano technologies, and are preparing to jointly set up laboratories.
