This day, 15 December, in 1980, saw the first controlled well drilled in the Chengbei Oilfield, jointly developed by China and Japan. Located in the western Bohai Sea, 88 kilometers away from Tanggu in Tianjin, and with production platforms rebuilt according to international standards, the first oil flowed forth from the China-Japan cooperation in energy development  in June, 1987.
