This day, 12 December, in 1946, in accordance with the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation, the Chinese Navy dispatched two warships, the “Taiping” and the “Zhongye”, to declare sovereignty over the Nansha Islands. After sailors and marines landed, they hoisted the national flag and held a ceremony to announce that the Islands, previously occupied by France and Japan, were thence part of China.
