Cao Feilong, a postgraduate student from Southeast University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, has started to design his personalized laptop since 2008. Now his self-designed computer has evolved to “the third generation”.

After Cao Feilong entered the university, he felt “inconvenient” with his laptop bought by his parents. As a student majoring in measurement and control technology, he came up with the idea of DIY computers. In 2008, Cao Feilong assembled the first generation of his DIY laptop only in a month except the early preparation of learning and design.

The three computers’ appearances are all very unique. As for the function, it is “evolving” gradually. The third generation is not only light and thin but also with high performance of hardware. Four types of audio interfaces make it a true compatible machine.

The cost of a DIY computer is very low. Cao Feilong designed the draft himself and asked familiar factory to produce it. While the more than 1,000 originals are second-hand products collected from friends, classmates or bought from flea market. Then he welded these originals by himself.

Cao Feilong’s DIY talent is not limited to computers. He had successfully made a LCD TV and his next goal is to make a camera.
