The flame of 2nd Asian Youth Games (AYG) has been lit in Nanjing, East China’s Jiangsu province on May 8. The torch-lighting ceremony was commenced at Purple Mountain Observatory ahead of an online torch relay. The day marks the 100-day countdown to the opening of the game.

According to Yang Weize, the executive chairman of Nanjing AYG committee, the Purple Mountain is a symbol of Nanjing and it signifies a window to explore the universe, science and future. Lighting the torch at Purple Mountain Observatory echoes the slogan of the 2nd AYG —“Blossom the Youth, Brighten the Future”.

The torch relay will be transferred online as youth are accustomed to internet. It also reflects the principle of a frugal competition.
