An elderly man who lives on the isolated island in the centre Yunlong Lake in Xuzhou, Jiangsu, has been rescued by police and firemen following his call for help after becoming trapped by ice.
Yunlong Lake Police Station of Xuzhou received the call at around noon on 7th Dec 7. The police then rushed to the spot for a rescue attempt. Due to the thick ice on the lake, however, the rescue boat was unable to proceed. As a result, more than a dozen policemen and firemen had to break the ice little by little with hammers.
The rescuee is responsible for guarding the pleasure boats and has only his own small boat for transporting necessities. As the temperatures continued to decline, the lake froze whereupon he found return to the mainland to be impossible.
