A Day at the Football in Nanjing
I never quite thought that the musical inspiration of Boney M would find a place at a top class* football match but maybe that says more about my appreciation of Boney M then it does for how well their music actually suits the cut and thrust of a game.
On Sunday April 19th, Nanjing Sainty played that powerhouse of world football

Pricing Scheme for New Nanjing Metro Lines Finally Announced
On 25 March, the Nanjing Pricing Bureau foramlly announced the pricing method for the soon to open Line 2 and Line 1 Southern Extension. The way to determine prices is exactly the same as what was reported here in February, though the Metro Department could not comment on the authenticity of the report at that time. Prices will remain low, but there are concerns that the Metro will not be able to be profitable.
For any ride up to eight stations, the fee is 2 RMB; 3 RMB for a ride of 9 to 12 stations, and 4 RMB for any ride of 13 or more stations. Transfers are free as well. With prices set in this way, Nanjing

On 22 March, Nanjing
Since last Saturday, many people may have experienced itchy eyes, sore or dry throats, and an unpleasant feeling in their mouths. Nanjing residents also may have noticed that generally everything was recently covered in dust. Much of this was due to the recent dust storm, but other factors contribute to this, as well.
Because of rain, conditions should improve. However, it is important to note that based on historical trends, these conditions have become more and more prevelant. Not only that, but these conditions are unsurprisingly not just caused by dust, but also from human pollution.
To recap the events of the last few days, the remains of a dust storm hit Nanjing on 20 March. Because the heart of the storm was situated far north of Nanjing, most of the heavier particles (such as sand) settled before they reachd this area of China. The result was a

Nanjing
If the dust storm on Saturday was not enough, residents of Nanjing can expect more abnormal weather in the near future. As cold air moves in, temperatures will drop sharply, while more dust storms are brewing in northern China. The positive side of this is that cold air will bring rain, which will wash the dust out of the air. On the other hand, the rain which is forecast to fall today, tomorrow, and even into Wednesday will be

Jiangsu Province
On 28 February, the Social Sciences Academic Press released a report entitled the Blue Book Economic Report: China’s Provincial Integrated Competitive Economic Development for 2008-2009. This report is used to evaluate the relative competitiveness of China’s 31 provinces and major cities, and is based on a wide variety of information. The report found that for the first time in modern Chinese history, Jiangsu Province’s economy has outgrown that of Guangdong.
Not surprisingly, the top economic regions in China are still Shanghai and Beijing, since both cities are large enough to be given provincial status. However, right after them on the list is Jiangsu and then Guangdong. This may be unexpected due to the relatively longer time which Guangdong has been open for foreign investment and development. Rounding out the top ten most competitive economies in China are Zhejiang, Tianjin City, Shandong, Liaoning, Fujian and Inner Mongolia.
In the Blue Book report provinces including Jiangsu and Jilin gained places, and therefore some provinces dropped relative to others. The largest drop was Shaanxi, which fell four places and is now ranked as 20th economically.
The actual rank of provinces was calculated according to nine guidelines: macro economics, production, sustainable development, public finances, the knowledge economy, the environment, the government’s role, the overall development level, and the level of coordination. Information about the factors which were used to calculate these guidelines was not readily available online.
With Jiangsu now officially China’s third largest economic region, what does this mean for the development of Nanjing? You are welcome to leave your thoughts below.
